What is an implant?
A dental implant is a titanium fixture that is surgically placed in the jaw bone. Over a healing period of several months, the implant fuses with surrounding bone creating an exceptionally stable platform. These platforms allow attachment to many different types of restorations, from single crowns to dentures.
When are they used?
Suitability for an implant restoration is assessed on a case by case basis, analyzing bone and tissue levels, space requirements, and teeth that are to be replaced. Implant retained restorations are fast becoming the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. From single teeth to dentures, there is an implant solution to meet your needs. Implants have a very high success rate, making them a preferable option over bridges in many single tooth replacement cases. Implant attachments can add much needed stability to dentures, allowing us to replace teeth in cases of poor denture fit.
